Fresh off leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first-ever NBA championship, star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has agreed to a historic four-year, $285 million contract extension, according to ESPN.com.

The groundbreaking deal is the largest in NBA history, averaging $71.25 million per season, and will keep Gilgeous-Alexander in Oklahoma City through the 2030–31 season.

Shai was the driving force behind the Thunder’s title win, delivering a standout performance in the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 30.3 points per game across the seven-game series and earned Finals MVP honors for his efforts.

Gilgeous-Alexander is still under his current contract, signed in 2021, which will pay him $38.3 million and $40.8 million over the next two seasons. His new extension will begin in the 2027–28 season, with escalating annual salaries:

$63.5 million in 2027–28

$68.6 million in 2028–29

$73.7 million in 2029–30

$78.7 million in 2030–31

Shai's dominance wasn't limited to the postseason — he also claimed regular-season MVP honors after leading the league in scoring. With that achievement, he joined elite company, becoming one of only a few players — including Shaquille O'Neal, Michael Jordan, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar — to win both the scoring title and MVP in the same year.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s meteoric rise continues to solidify his place among the NBA’s elite, and with this new deal, the Thunder are making it clear: they’re building a dynasty around him.
